Q: What can I expect in my first therapy session?
A: The first session is a chance for us to learn about your concerns, set goals, and discuss the best treatment options. It’s a relaxed, no-pressure environment.
Q: How long does therapy take?
A: The length of therapy varies depending on individual needs. Some clients see improvement in just a few sessions, while others benefit from longer-term support.
Q: Do you accept insurance?
A: We are a private pay practice and do not accept insurance. However, we can provide superbills for clients who wish to seek reimbursement from their provider.
Q: How do I know if my child needs therapy?
A: If your child is experiencing persistent emotional distress, behavioral difficulties, social struggles, or academic challenges, therapy can provide effective support.
Q: Will my child’s therapy be confidential?
A: Yes, with some exceptions related to safety concerns (e.g., harm to self or others). We always involve parents in a way that supports the child’s therapeutic progress.
Q: What age groups do you treat?
A: Typically, we treat children as young as 5 years old, as well as families and adults. Feel free to contact us if you have questions.
Q: Do you provide school consultations?
A: Yes, we work with parents and educators to support children in school settings, including developing behavior plans and advocating for accommodations.
Q: What is Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT)?
A: CBT is an evidence-based approach that helps clients identify and change negative thought patterns and behaviors. It’s highly effective for anxiety, depression, and behavior challenges.
Q: What is EMDR therapy?
A: Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is a specialized therapy that helps individuals process traumatic memories and reduce distressing symptoms.
Q: Do you conduct psychological evaluations?
A. Yes, dependent upon need. As part of the intake for services, we can certainly discuss need for evaluation and make recommendations accordingly.
Q: Is a psychological evaluation required to begin services?
A: No, as part of the initial intake we typically gather enough information to understand the needs of our clients and development treatment plans accordingly.
Q: Do you offer Independent Educational Evaluations [IEE]?
A: No, but can refer to services who may be of benefit.
Q: Do you offer psychological evaluations for custody or divorce proceedings?
A: No, this is considered a forensic evaluation and we do not focus on these services in our practice.
